A Dinner Table Club Organiser creates informal, family-style gatherings where young people and volunteers share a meal and conversation. These relaxed events build community and trust.
Your role includes:
Planning inclusive events: Organise and host monthly dinners or potlucks. Choose culturally varied menus so all feel represented.
Facilitating conversation: Prepare discussion topics (e.g. music, sports, school life) and gently guide conversations. Encourage youths to share stories and listen to others.
Promoting belonging: Ensure every young person feels welcome. Model respect and openness, so they feel valued and heard.
Observing needs: Notice if someone seems troubled or draws away during conversations, and gently offer private support or suggest other help.
Building a sense of identity and belonging is a key protective factor; studies note that when young people feel isolated, they may seek out new sometimes harmful groups. Your Dinner Table Club will give BME youth a safe space to belong, share culture, and find positive community.
Get involved – host a Dinner Table Club and help youth feel connected.
