Law Enforcement may encounter BME youth through incidents or community stops
Consider referral if:
- A youth is arrested or stopped for carrying a knife, weapon or illegal items, especially if their explanation seems tied to peer pressure or fear.
- They express extremist rhetoric during questioning, or social media content is flagged in investigations.
- An individual is repeatedly at risk events e.g. gang hotspots, protests with violent potential.
- After handling a case, you sense underlying vulnerability or anger driving their actions.
Referrals from Law Enforcement help steer youth away from the criminal justice system. We will work with the young person and family to address root issues confidentially. Early, voluntary support can reduce the likelihood of reoffending or radical actions.
Need guidance? Contact our Law Enforcement support coordinator for advice on referring a case.
